Our movie for November is What Dreams May Come by Robin Williams! This is a fantastic example of the use of stunning visual effects in film.
It won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and the Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction. The visual effects were created by Mass.lllusions, the same group that developed the bullet time visual effects for The Matrix.
It’s one of a few films shot on Fuji Velvia (RVM) film stock. Velvia is a type of film used most frequently for still photography of landscapes and other subjects because of its very high color saturation. So watch it on the biggest TV you can find!
Film Folks is a casual group for any movie lover! We meet the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7 PM. Watch the movie ahead of time and then we’ll all gather at the brewery to share our opinions and answer some discussion questions together. (Like a book club, but with movies instead of books!) There is no attendance requirements, cost to participate, and no purchase necessary. Just come hang out with some fellow movie fans. Check in with the bar when you arrive and they will point you in the direction of the group. Because we want to best facilitate easy discussion and connection, there will likely be several different small tables for film group and not one big one. Our advice? Pick the table where you know the least people and make some new film friends!
